Competency Statements

Competency statements are broad phrases that describe general capabilities, rather than specific skills. There are two groups of competency statements:

Digital and information technology statements
Productivity, business, and research statements


There are two different types of levels — those that apply to roles, and those that apply to skills:

  • The role levels equate to seniority or progression in a person's career or organizational hierarchy.
  • The skill levels equate to the degree of competence or expertise a person may have for a given skill.

The idea of levels is that they can be mapped to people, roles, skills, training content, and so on. This makes it easy to differentiate between junior and senior positions, to target training at appropriate levels, to apply career pathways, and much more.
